Who Protects The Internet?
In part, it’s this man – General Kevin Chilton, US STRATCOM commander and the head of all military cyber warfare. We’re broadcasting an interview tonight with General Chilton, in which he discusses the threat of cyber warfare, along with his other remits of space warfare and the US nuclear deterrent. Chilton is fascinating, and amongst other things has been a NASA space shuttle pilot, logging over 700 hours in space.
The discussion with General Chilton brings to light a crucial question, however. Is the internet actually protected? The military remit is to defend the .mil networks, prevent online espionage, and develop offensive strike capabilities. But who’s protecting the rest? Given its integration with every aspect of our lives and economy, it’s surprising just how little we know about who defends our electronic nervous system.
美国战略司令部(USSTRATCOM)简介
美国战略司令部于2002年由美国航天司令部和战略司令部合并而成，旨在将空间、信息对抗和进攻打击能力有机结合在一起。其任务领域为：网络战，导弹防御，空间和全球打击，情报、监视和侦察（ISR），以及大规模杀伤性武器。
2005年美国战略司令部(USSTRATCOM)进行了重大调整，建立了联合机能司令部(JFCC)体制。JFCC也是联合军种性质,成为USSTRATCOM业务分管单位。USSTRATCOM在去年还被赋予了美军在全球范围内防止大规模杀伤性武器扩散任务，并成立了相应机构。
改组后，美国战略司令部的对口军种部门序列为：陆军空间与导弹防御司令部/陆军部队战略司令部(ARSTRAT)、空军航天司令部(AFSC)、海军舰队司令部(FFC),具体业务单位是海军网络战术司令部。
